Cairns Bowls Club History
The Cairns Bowls Club has a long & rich 110 year old history. It was the 13th club ever registered with Queensland Bowls, now known as Bowls QLD. Back at this time, he nearest club from Brisbane was Mackay. Townsville clubs was not established until a couple of years later. Originally based in the Cairns CBD, in 1976 relocated to the suburb of Bayview Heights. In 2006, Brothers Leagues Club in Cairns purchased the property. The club operated happily until the recent sale of it's Toogood Rd home to a private investor. A soccer club was established and the bowls club was unceremoniously forced from their residence. A band of stalwart members keep the dream alive, and furthermore aim to rebuild what was created in 1910 and continue the 110 year old journey.
Preserving Cairns Folklore
To carry on tradition the Cairns Bowls Club members continue to compete in Bowls QLD affiliated events. Bowlers are still representing the club in district events with the assistance of Gordonvale Bowls Club providing a home ground for club competitions.
